Shoreline Weed Control is a company specializing in lake front management using a machine known as a Hydro-rake. The hydro-rake is designed to work along the shoreline, up to a depth of 12 feet, and remove nuisance aquatic weeds and debris. The machine removes the roots and stems of aquatic weeds, and can cover a swimming area of 50X50 feet in approximately one hour. This time is dependent on the density and type of aquatic weeds, bottom characteristics, and depth. Annual raking is strongly encouraged in order to keep the area under control. Keeping your water source clear is important.
Shoreline Weed Control currently operates in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut. We have established a good reputation with our clients who use our maintenance service year after year. Much of our business is repeat by nature however we are always looking forward to the challenges that new projects and new clients bring.
Please consult with Lycott to develop a specific plan and budget.
The hydro rake deposits the weeds on the shore out of the water. As the weeds dry out they reduce in volume and can be shredded for use as mulch or fertilizer or in some cases topsoil and landfill. Final removal or dissolution of the weed pile is the property owners responsibility. The recycling of pond and lake sediment is becoming the sound ecological choice.
The answer to our clients is always yes. A property owner or Lake Association planning to undertake any kind of weed control program must file an application with their local Conservation Commission and with the State Wetlands Board. Shoreline Weed Control currently holds many permits in several states. Please inquire as to whether your body of water is currently permitted by us before undertaking the process on your own behalf. There is a waiting/processing period, so make sure you start several months in advance.
The natural evolution of a lake or pond is to fill in. This process usually takes centuries. Today our lakes and ponds are weeding in at a rapid rate. They are being fed a rich diet of phosphates and organic nutrients coming from inadequate septic systems and watershed runoff. Until the nutrient source can be stemmed, our lakes and ponds will continue to have a weed problem. The other treatments available, chemical, (herbicides) harvesting, (mowing) and hydro raking, (plant removal) fall into the category of short-term treatment, or maintenance. They will need to be repeated periodically. The lake is a living environment and will reclaim its territory if nothing is done. We believe hydro raking offers the most benefits for the money when it comes to aquatic weed control. Thank you, for taking time to read this information. A healthy and balanced ecology is good for everyone.
